Sarah, an elderly lady residing in a friendly neighbourhood, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease a few years back. Despite her condition, she lives alone, maintaining her independence. To help her with daily tasks, carers visit her three times a day for 30 minutes each, ensuring she showers, takes her medications and eats properly. Her daughter, Katie, living just three miles away, visits her thrice a week, providing additional support and companionship to her mum.
Sarah’s medical condition has caused her to fall several times in the past. Although she had a pendant alarm, most of the time she forgot to wear it. Even if she did wear it, Sarah forgot to press the button to call for help, rendering it ineffective. Given this, she requires a discreet, technology-enabled solution that does not depend on her memory to activate. She needs a system that can automatically detect emergencies, such as falls, and alert her family and carers, ensuring timely assistance. This level of reliability and responsiveness is crucial for Sarah’s safety and her family’s peace of mind.
Keeping in mind her mum’s fragile state, Katie decided to install our assisted living solution, Beanbag Care, in Sarah’s home. Katie, who also acts as her mum’s responder, can now remotely monitor her and be at ease knowing that if Sarah falls again, the sensors will detect it and send prompt alerts to Katie, without Sarah having to press any button. In addition to that, Katie also has access to comprehensive data about her mum’s home environment, including temperature and carbon monoxide levels, sleep pattern analysis, and the quality of care provided by the carers.
Timely fall alert to avert risk:On one winter evening, Sarah experienced a fall in her bedroom around 4 pm. As before, she forgot to activate her alarm and could not get herself back up. The Beanbag Care system detected the fall and alerted her daughter.
Katie immediately contacted Sarah’s neighbour to go and check over her mum, while she reached there. The neighbour went to assist Sarah who was thankfully not badly hurt and did not require hospitalisation.
If Beanbag Care had not been in place to detect the fall, Sarah would have lain hurt on the floor for four hours until her carer arrived. The carer would have straight away called an ambulance, incurring an unnecessary cost of £250.
Remote temperature control for comfort: Shortly after installation, Katie received an alert indicating that Sarah’s home temperature was below safe levels. Checking her mum’s peaceful sleep pattern on the app, Katie decided not to disturb her mother and managed to adjust the temperature remotely and effortlessly using the responder’s app. This ensured Sarah’s comfort without interrupting her rest.
Katie gained peace of mind after the installation of Beanbag Care system. She could now know her mum’s whereabouts at fingertips without constantly worrying about her saftey and well-being.
She is very thankful that our assisted living solution had timely detected her mum’s fall and living conditions, enabling her to support her mum better. She is very grateful for the additional security provided by Beanbag Care.
