Seven years ago, Wendy, then a 65-year-old woman, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She was lovingly cared for at home by her husband. All was going well until a tragedy struck her in February 2023, and her world turned upside down when her husband passed away from a sudden heart attack.
In the wake of this loss, Alice, Wendy’s daughter, who lives 20 minutes away, decided to take a more active role in her mother’s life. She began visiting daily but soon started to struggle owing to her own conditions and time constraints. To ensure her mother received the necessary support, Alice arranged a privately funded care package consisting of four 30-minute visits per day.
Wendy was unhappy with the carer, claiming that during the last visit of the day, the carer would not help her and simply sat there. This heightened her anxiety. Concerned, her daughter decided to cancel the carer’s nighttime visit.
Despite these changes, Wendy’s discomfort persisted. Her anxiety manifested in numerous ways, and she constantly desired someone by her side, fearing that she might fall and no one would be there to help her.
As time passed, her condition deteriorated even further. She would often leave home and walk the streets until someone she knew brought her back home.
Seeing Wendy’s declining condition, Alice decided to install Beanbag Care system to support her mum in living independently.
Seamless safety monitoring: After installing Beanbag Care, Alice had the ability to monitor her mother 24/7. Discreet sensors placed around the house detected every time Wendy left her home and notified Alice via the app. This enabled Alice to take prompt action, locate her mum, and ensure her safety.
Fast response to temperature issue: Alice could also track her mum’s sleep through the responder app. The data revealed that Wendy was spending extended periods in bed, which led to bedsores and negatively impacted her overall health. Armed with this valuable information, Alice was able to have a meaningful conversation with her mother about her sleep habits and consulted a doctor to address the issue.
Monitoring sleep for better care: On one occasion, Beanbag Care sent a temperature alert to Alice. Unable to adjust the boiler’s temperature remotely, she rushed to help her mum. After investigation, it was found that the boiler was broken. The Beanbag Care contact centre team connected with them over the phone and enquired about the whole situation. The team was constantly in touch with Alice.
The insights provided by the Beanbag Care system enabled Alice to oversee her mother’s condition and recognise when additional care was needed. She felt a sense of calm, knowing that her mother was safe even if the carer was not there.
Alice was also impressed with the Beanbag Care system and its team members and praised them, saying they were “fabulous”. She highly recommends the system to everyone.
