We were preparing for a large grid metering tender at the Bhubaneshwar branch. Considering our past record in Orissa, we knew the expectation from all sides was that we would win it!
The pre-tendering meeting took place, clarifications were sought and given. Thereafter came the moment to float the actual tender; after going through the tender we participated in it! But the actual tender was quite a plain one and it looked as if all the parties which were hovering like bees around honey from the pre-tendering stage would kill our plan…
But by god’s grace we got a platform where we could grab the attention of the Board by showing them our new product and its features, and we were moving things in our favour!
However things never are that easy in life and on the deciding date, on the morning we were to make the presentation, we heard that our main opening batsman (who would set up the platform for us to bat on easily and score the winning runs and become heroes) had a major personal issue – his new born baby was in ICU and the situation was critical.
We reached the office of the utility location with heavy hearts, imagining that things would not be smooth as had been previously expected and we may not achieve what we were targeting! But to our surprise when we entered the room, our main opening batsman had completed almost all the work and was waiting for us, to wish us all the best for day. He smiled, said good bye and went to hospital again!
We just closed our eyes and opened the presentation so that we could hit every ball, till the end of day, out of stadium and win the tender for our opening batsman!
My heart has not allowed me to mention any name in this real story as I am sure success stories always find the real hero by themselves!
