IndiaSecure Meters Ltd is an Indian multinational and privately owned business, headquartered at Udaipur, in India. We have our offices in India, the UK, Australia, Sweden, Switzerland, the UAE, Malaysia, Singapore, Italy, and Bangladesh. We also have two manufacturing partnerships in Malaysia and Ghana, which have enabled us to contribute to the swiftly emerging and major markets of Africa and South East Asia.
It all started in 1987, in a small Indian town – Udaipur. It was here where we created the world’s first commercially viable energy meter. Our more than three decades journey has since taken us from the provincial town of Udaipur to all Indian states. Fun fact – 99 per cent of the electrons flowing in the Indian grid will be measured at least once by a Secure meter. More than 6,000 employees work across our three manufacturing facilities, two R&D centres and multiple sales offices across the nation.
In 2003, the Australian operation was set up in Melbourne, immediately taking on a pioneering role in the supply of smart metering in Victoria, which constituted the first part of Australia’s smart meter roll-out program. Between 2003 and 2009, 1.4 million smart meters were installed in households across the state. In January 2021, we proudly launched 10 years no quibbles warranty, in Australia, for its smart meter product range compatible with the Power of Choice market.
Secure commenced its journey in Bangladesh in the late 90s. We supplied our products and solutions to large power consumers across various utilities. In 2007, Secure became the technology partner for the first private distribution franchisee and introduced currency-based Liberty pre-payment system in Bangladesh. It set a benchmark for consumer empowerment and gradually became a national policy for adoption of such advanced, easy-to-use technology in Bangladesh. In 2020, an international branch office was set up in Dhaka.
In 2021, Secure decided to open a branch in Italy to serve its European customer base better. The Italian site serves as a central hub for the supply of products in the European Union on top of the Middle East and Asia. From Italy, we also manage customer-facing activities for the European market. On top of a wide range of accurate panel instruments, most high-end grid meters and power quality analysers are produced daily inside a state-of-the-art production environment within a LEED® Gold certified building.
Secure initiated its journey in the Middle Eastern market in 1999, with grid metering installations in Oman. Doors to our regional office in Dubai were opened in 2004, and since then it has been the centre offering technological and commercial support in the Middle East. Our footprint covers all major utilities, as well as an expanding offering of energy efficiency solutions. We are an approved manufacturer of meters in most utilities in the grid metering segment across the Middle East.
In 2004, we introduced the state-of-the-art electronic energy meters into the South East Asian markets with our local partner Krizik (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd; the local manufacturing plant was set up in Malaysia, in 2005. Indonesia, Myanmar, Singapore and the Philippines are our key South East Asian markets. We are also a leading supplier of panel indicating instruments, multi-function panel meters, transducers, energy meters for industrial, grid application for major OEMs and panel builders in Vietnam, Thailand, South Korea and Malaysia.
Secure came to Sweden in 2007, when we embraced Cewe Instruments AB; it was later merged into the parent brand in 2018. Building on the strength of the Cewe Instrument brand, we have been working with Tenant Owners Associations (TOAs) for many years. Our team at Nyköping continues to bring new solutions for the Scandinavian market to address the ever-growing need for improved energy efficiency and to provide the customers with a choice about how they manage their home environment.
With the acquisition of Adaptricity in 2021, Secure attained access to the Swiss market, as well as to Adaptricity’s range of products. Adaptricity’s cloud-based network analytics platform enables distribution system operators to better understand, operate, and plan their power grid infrastructure using data-driven network analytics. This results in significant cost savings in network operation, maintenance, planning, and asset management. Adaptricity merged into the parent brand in early 2022. Moving forward, our team in Zurich continues to operate as an innovative software and consulting company, specialising in planning, simulation, and monitoring of power grids. Together with distribution network operators worldwide, we create future-proof power grids.
The United Kingdom has been one of our earliest markets. We presently have two offices, one in Bristol and the other in Chandler’s Ford, along with a production facility. We are the second largest supplier in the UK with branded products in 4 million homes. We have installed 7 million smart meters, 2 million credit meters, and 5 million control products across the UK. As a retailer of both gas and electricity in the UK, Secure is the only metering company with first-hand experience of what retailers need, which helps to cater their diverse needs.
