If you chose Continue with the installation or Install a new Beanbag system in the app, you will first need to finish setting up the system. You will need the password to your home broadband.

The Beanbag app will guide you step-by-step through the process of setting up the schedule for heating and/or hot water.

The default schedule divides the week into periods defined as RelaxAway and Sleep, each with its own settings for heat or hot water. You can modify these definitions, or add your own, at any time.

Weekends can be set up differently from weekdays, so Beanbag adjusts to suit your lifestyle.

Relax mode is for when someone is at home, but not asleep. It maintains a comfortable temperature for daily activities.

Sleep mode is for when everybody is in bed, and usually has a lower target temperature than

Relax.

Awamode is for when nobody is at home, so the target temperature at its lowest. If your Beanbag system controls hot water, it will operate once each day by default.

You can adjust any of these settings to suit your needs. For example, you can set hot water to be on continuously when Relax mode is active, whereas it is off by default. The start and stop times can be adjusted for each mode, together with the target temperature.

You can change any setting at any time, by selecting Schedule within the app.

Controlling Beanbag devices

How to control hot water and hot water via the app. Changing settings and adjusting modes. How to use the Beanbag Thermostat and Receiver.

In normal operation, Beanbag will automatically maintain the temperature that was set for the current mode (e.g. RelaxSleep and Away).

Using the Beanbag App, you can override the set temperature at any time, from anywhere with an Internet connection.

On the Home tab, tap the Heat button for the zone that you wish to take control of (for a single- zone system there will only be one Heat button).

Use the slider to set the target temperature (in red). The actual temperature is shown in black. The target temperature will remain in force until the next change of mode. The time until this will happen is shown in brackets.

If you would like the new target temperature to apply for a fixed time, tap Until fixed duration, select the number of hours for which you would like the new target temperature to apply, and then tap Done. This will override any changes in mode that occur in the meantime.

Alternatively, you can press the top half of the Thermostat front panel to increase the set temperature, or the bottom half to decrease it. This will last until the next schedule change.

To boost your heating for one hour you can also press the top half of the Receiver front panel. The single ‘pip’ on the front panel will light up in white.

Remember that it takes time for any change in target temperature to take effect. Setting a higher temperature than is needed will not make the system reach the target more quickly!

In normal operation, Beanbag will automatically control the hot water according to the schedule set up.

Using the Beanbag App, you can override the hot water setting at any time, from anywhere with an Internet connection.

On the Home tab, tap the Hot Water button. Tap the Water heating button to turn the hot water on or off. The water heating will remain in that state until the next change of mode. The time until this will happen is shown in brackets.

You can also set the hot water to stay on for either 1 hour or 2 hours, by tapping 1h Boost or 2h

Boost.

To boost your heating for one hour you can also press the top half of the Receiver front panel. The single ‘pip’ on the front panel will light up in white.

At any time, you can override any programmed schedule and activate a 1-hour or 2-hour boost for the hot water.

On the Home screen, select Hot Water, and then tap either 1h Boost or 2h Boost for 1 hour or 2 hours respectively.

The remaining time before the boost will expire is shown and is updated every minute. You can cancel the boost at any time and return to the programmed schedule.

To boost your heating for one hour you can also press the top half of the Receiver front panel. The single ‘pip’ on the front panel will light up in white.

You can access multiple Beanbag systems from a single account. The name of the system you are currently using is shown at the top of the Beanbag Home screen.

If you have multiple systems, you can switch between them by tapping the Home button at the top left of the screen.

To check the settings at any time, select the Schedule tab and then tap the required mode at the Schedule screen.

The Edit event screen shows the mode, with its Comfort and Economy heat settings,

From/Until time and Repeat type.

The From/Until times and the Repeat settings can be adjusted from this screen.

To view or edit the settings for a mode, tap on Mode in the Edit event screen, or navigate to MoreàBeanbag settings foràModes.

All the devices using the Beanbag app will see the last changes made and will have full control to make changes. The last change received will be reflected in the Beanbag devices and can be over-ridden by any of the other devices.

When the Beanbag Thermostat has been installed and commissioned into the Beanbag system, it will show the target temperature and ambient temperature.

The larger figures in the middle show the actual temperature, while the smaller figures above them show the target temperature. An up or down arrow shows whether the actual temperature is higher or lower than the target.

To increase the target temperature, press the top half of the Thermostat front panel. To decrease the target temperature, press the bottom half.

When the Beanbag Receiver has been installed and commissioned into the Beanbag system, you should not normally need to do anything with it.

If there is a loss of communications between the Receiver and other devices (or the app) you can use the button on its front face to switch your heating on or off, or to boost the hot water for an hour.

On the More menu select Beanbag settings for and then tap Holiday settings.

Enter the start and end dates for your holiday. While you are away, Beanbag will keep the hot water turned off, and will ensure that the temperature in your home does not fall below 5 °C.

You can set up to 24 time slots completely flexibly across the week, independently for heating and hot water.

Each mode (e.g. RelaxAway and Sleep) has two heat settings, Comfort and Economy that you can set to suit your needs.

  • Comfort is the default setting each time a mode comes into operation, so you should set it as the optimum temperature for what you will be doing during that mode.
  • Economy is a lower temperature that you can activate while a particular mode is active, in order to save energy and money.

Each mode can have different Comfort and Economy heat settings, but Comfort will always be higher.

Beanbag suggests initial default heat settings for Comfort and Economy when each mode is set up, but you can change them at any time.

To change these settings select the Moremenu, tap Beanbag settings for, and then Modes. Select the mode for which you would like to change the settings, e.g. Relax. Tap Target and then select Comfort or Economy. Use the slider to set the required temperature for each mode.

These messages show the schedules that are currently active in the Beanbag system. The time before each schedule expires is shown as time left.

More than one schedule can be active at the same time. For example, a Hot water event can run together with Relax mode.

  • Relax mode is for when someone is at home, but not asleep. It maintains a comfortable temperature for daily activities.
  • Sleep mode is for when everybody is in bed, and usually has a lower target temperature than Relax.
  • Awamode is for when nobody is at home, so the target temperature at its lowest. You can modify these definitions, or add your own, at any time.

These are messages from the Beanbag feed.

They provide information about how your Beanbag system is performing, and will also alert you about any potential problems.

Beanbag supports multiple heating zones. Heat x2 and Heat x2 +Hot Water kits contain everything you need to control two existing plumbed heating zones. You can also extend any of these kits, using an expansion kit.

Modes are groups of settings that let you take control of multiple devices and functions in your home.

Three default modes are created when Beanbag is installed: Relax,Away and Sleep. An additional mode, Hot water,is created for Heat + Hot Water or Heat x2 + Hot Water kits.

An event is created by assigning a mode to a time slot. An event combines a mode with its

Comfort and Economy heat settings, From/Until time and Repeat type.

You can make your own additional Modes using the Moremenu.

You can grant temporary access to your Beanbag system, via a PIN.

Go to More Beanbag settings for Devices Generate installer access PIN in your

Beanbag app to generate the temporary pass code.

The installer can then use the PIN to access your system through his Beanbag app. Please note that the pass code is only valid for 24 hours and will expire thereafter.

You can only replace a device that has failed. The faulty device must not be powered up again, in case it affects the rest of the network. Faulty devices must be disposed of responsibly, in accordance with local laws.

Before proceeding, check that the replacement device is of the same type as the one that failed.

Go to More Beanbag settings for Devices Advance set up Replace device, or More Install Beanbag Advance set up Replace device and follow the on-screen instructions in app to replace the device.

If you experience any problems when replacing a Beanbag device, run Reset network. After resetting the entire network, you can restart the replacement process.

If the internet connection is lost, you can still control your heating or hot water system using the Beanbag mobile app if you are at home. However, remote control will not be possible until the connection is restored.

You can use the Beanbag Thermostat to control the temperature, just as with a traditional device.

You can use the button on the front face of the Receiver to switch your heating on or off, or to boost the hot water for an hour.

You can change these settings at any time.

From the More menu, tap Beanbag settings for, and then select Change Wi-Fi credentials. Follow the instructions given in the app and you will be able to reconnect to your new router or change SSID/password, as required.

A system reset returns your Beanbag system back to ‘factory’ condition.

A network reset will remove all the devices from the Beanbag network, and is recommended in the following situations:

  • incomplete install: this can be caused by a problem during commissioning, such as procedural error happened, battery failure, smartphone switched off etc
  • installation aborted: this can happen if the user quits the installation and then attempts to try a different installation procedure
  • device replacement failed: this can happen if the replacement process fails

The app will indicate when a system or network reset is needed.

This message appears if you ask the app to do something, but the Gateway has not responded. This can happen if there is a communications failure between the app and the Gateway.

You should be able to perform the operation if you try again after a few minutes. It is a good idea to check the internet connection first.

If you see this message when commissioning a new Beanbag system, check that your smartphone is connected to the Gateway Wi-Fi, as instructed in the app.
